Meet Our Principal
Welcome to Emily Dickinson Elementary School and Go Dragons!
Our Emily Dickinson Elementary and Explorer Community School communities are exceptional with talented students, dedicated staff, and a supportive parent community. Our students thrive in this rich environment and have many opportunities to grow and develop as young mathematicians, literary scholars, writers, artists, musicians, and scientists.
This is my fourth year as your principal, and I love serving this community. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest and living here most of my life, I have strong roots in Washington State. I earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Evergreen State College in Olympia and while getting my Master’s in Teaching Degree from the same college, I also served as an Executive Fellow to Governor Locke as the Community Involvement Coordinator and state administrator of Washington Reading Corps. I have been both an English language arts teacher and a school counselor. Additionally, I worked at Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction as the Reading Programs Manager implementing literacy programs to increase student achievement. I have also served as a District Educational Specialist supporting literacy instruction. Before coming to Lake Washington, I served four years as an Assistant Principal in the Bethel School District. Being an instructional leader and educator is who I am, and I honored to serve this community and your students.
On a personal note, my husband and I have grown children and a grandson. When I am not at school, we enjoy spending time with friends and family, playing ping-pong, doing crossword puzzles, hiking, birdwatching, and traveling. We love animals, but do not currently have any furry friends because we are home so seldom.
One of our main focuses at Emily Dickinson and Explorer Community School for the 2021-2022 school year is to build stronger relationships with our students, our families, and our community. We are passionate about providing the best possible educational experience for our students and will also continue to work on equitable, high-leverage teaching practices. My goal is to continue to partner with families and the community to provide leadership that facilitates a safe learning environment where students’ curiosity is nurtured, and they are challenged academically.
