Our Time to Enjoy Reading - OTTER

Our KCLS librarian, Lisa Racine, will visit Dickinson 3rd and Ms. Shaw's class to talk about the OTTER book club.

OTTER (Our Time to Enjoy Reading) is a partnership with KCLS to engage 2nd - 3rd grade students in a variety of genres and help to inspire a love reading as students move into chapter books.

Interested students will have a chance to join the OTTER club. Each participating student will have access to checkout each title and will receive a journal to take notes on each book. Students will pick their favorite book that they believe should win the 2026 OTTER Award. We will submit our overall winning title to the WLA website by end of April.

ARC Weekly Practice Starts January

4th and 5th grade ARC students should continue to read their books. Each team has two leaders that are responsible for keeping track of the books for their team. Here are some helpful ways to keep your child on schedule:

  • Ask your child if they have read their book and swapped it out with another book on the list.
  • Have your child share what they liked about they book and why? Sharing a brief summary of the book also helps to engage with your child while they are reading.

We will begin our weekly ARC meetings on Thursday, January 8th at lunch/recess and continue until our school competition which will take place before mid winter break.
